Insecurity: APC, PDP don’t care about Nigerians - ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged the public to withhold judgment on the party’s performance in the recent by‑elections held across 16 constituencies. These elections, conducted on 16 August, were intended to fill vacancies left by lawmakers who died or resigned after the 2023 general elections. Reports indicate that the ADC failed to win any seats, while the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 12 of the 16 seats across nine states. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won two seats in Anambra, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) each captured one seat in Oyo and Kano, respectively.

In an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi attributed the party’s poor showing to the timing of the election and the party’s level of preparedness. He explained that the by‑elections took place less than a month after the ADC’s internal transition, leaving insufficient time to establish its leadership and ready candidates. Abdullahi stressed that the party should not be judged solely on these results, noting that the elections occurred too early in the transition process.

Abdullahi expressed confidence that the ADC will be better prepared for upcoming elections. The party’s performance in the by‑elections has sparked interest in its future prospects, as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve. The ADC will likely face heightened scrutiny and competition from other parties, making its ability to adapt and prepare for forthcoming contests crucial to its success. With several elections on the horizon, the ADC will have opportunities to redeem itself and demonstrate its strength as a political force in Nigeria.
