Hilda Baci kicks off Guinness world record attempt for largest pot of jollof rice

Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has embarked on an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for cooking the largest pot of jollof rice. Building on her global recognition after completing the longest cooking marathon in 2023, she aims to prepare 250 bags of rice.

The event was originally scheduled for Muri Okunola Park but was moved to the Eko Hotel in Lagos because of overwhelming interest, with more than 20,000 people registering to attend. The attempt began with a poignant moment: Hilda and her mother prayed together, seeking divine strength and protection. The emotional scene drew cheers from the crowd, many of whom acknowledged the significant role Hilda’s mother has played in her culinary journey.

Before cooking, Hilda personally cleaned the massive pot, ensuring it was spotless. She noted that the pot would soon hold thousands of servings of Nigerian jollof rice, making history in the process. A large crowd gathered to witness the record attempt, reflecting the popularity of jollof rice as a beloved dish in Nigerian cuisine.

Hilda’s previous record for the longest cooking marathon earned her international recognition, and this new attempt is expected to further solidify her position as a leading figure in the culinary world. If successful, she will achieve a new Guinness World Record, cementing her place in the culinary record books and promoting greater awareness and appreciation of African cuisine globally.
