Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has given an update on the fitness of several key players ahead of the club’s upcoming match against Brentford. Cole Palmer has not yet returned to full training after limping off during the pre‑match warm‑up before the 5‑1 win over West Ham. He also missed the 2‑0 victory against Fulham before the international break because of the injury. Maresca said Palmer took part in part of yesterday’s session, marking his first involvement since the setback, but cautioned that his recovery is still ongoing and his availability for the Brentford game remains uncertain. “We have one more session, we are going to try with him. We will see if it is okay. Otherwise, he will be out again tomorrow,” the manager explained.
In addition, Maresca confirmed that striker Liam Delap will be sidelined for an extended period after sustaining a hamstring injury against Fulham. The expected recovery time is 10 to 12 weeks, which will significantly affect Chelsea’s attacking options. New signing Alejandro Garnacho, who arrived from Manchester United, is also not yet at full fitness. According to Maresca, Garnacho “arrived not 100 per cent fit” but is making progress in training.
These fitness updates come at a crucial time as Chelsea prepares to face Brentford. Managing injuries and integrating new signings will be key factors in the team’s performance. With Palmer’s status still uncertain and Delap ruled out for the foreseeable future, Maresca will need to carefully consider his lineup and strategy to maintain competitiveness. As the season progresses, the fitness and availability of players such as Palmer, Delap and Garnacho will continue to be closely monitored by fans and analysts alike.
