Mass defection: 792 PDP women join APC in Jigawa

In Jigawa State, about 792 women have defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The ceremony took place in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, where the women were formally received by Amina Umar Namadi, the governor’s wife.

Mrs. Namadi said the shift reflects the effective leadership of Governor Umar Namadi’s administration, particularly its efforts to improve the lives of citizens with a focus on women and youth empowerment. She welcomed the new members and emphasized that the APC remains open to those who wish to contribute to the state’s development.

Malam Bala Ibrahim, the Secretary to the State Government, also addressed the gathering. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to enhancing the well‑being of ordinary citizens and highlighted the various programs and policies introduced since the government took office, noting that the current administration has distinguished itself in delivering democratic dividends.

Representing the defectors, Amina Waina explained that their decision to join the APC stems from the administration’s demonstrated support for women’s empowerment. The women pledged to continue mobilising support for the government, especially as the 2027 general election approaches.

This defection underscores the evolving political landscape in Jigawa State, with the APC consolidating its position ahead of future elections. Observers see the move as a testament to the perceived effectiveness of the current administration in addressing citizens’ needs, especially those of women, and expect the development to be closely watched as political dynamics unfold.
