Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has drawn criticism from Arise Television’s Morning Show anchor Rufai Oseni over remarks he made after resuming office. Oseni took to the social‑media platform X to argue that the governor appears to be celebrating a peaceful atmosphere at the expense of being “bullied and subdued.” He suggested that Fubara’s statement emphasizing peace over war should be examined in light of the governor’s earlier comments.

Governor Fubara’s remarks were delivered during a statewide broadcast in which he reflected on the six‑month emergency rule imposed on Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu. He urged residents to learn from the experience, noting that even the most costly peace is preferable to the cheapest war. Fubara also claimed he had cooperated with the federal government and resisted pressure to challenge the emergency rule in court, prioritising peace, stability and progress for the state.

The emergency rule was introduced in response to a period of instability and violence, placing the state under direct federal control to restore order and security. Fubara’s decision not to contest the rule in court has been viewed as a key factor in maintaining peace.

The exchange between Oseni and Governor Fubara highlights the complexities of navigating peace and stability in a region that has experienced conflict. As Rivers State moves forward, the governor’s actions and decisions will likely be closely scrutinised by residents, opposition parties and the media. The situation will continue to be monitored, with particular focus on the governor’s efforts to sustain peace and promote development in the region.
