The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully conducted local government congresses in all 21 local government areas of Kebbi State. The exercises, which were described as peaceful, transparent, and orderly by party leaders, resulted in the election of local government executives and national delegates.
According to Bello Goronyo, Chairman of the PDP Local Government Congress Committee and also the PDP State Chairman in Sokoto, the congresses were well-attended, with a high turnout of delegates. Goronyo expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the congresses, noting that the early turnout of delegates and the unity among party members were impressive. He also commended the roles played by youths and women, praising their orderly conduct and impressive turnout during the exercise.
The election process was straightforward, with delegates voting in cases where multiple candidates contested a position, and affirming consensus candidates in situations where an agreement had been reached. Goronyo noted that the atmosphere was peaceful, which is a testament to the party’s strength going into the 2027 general elections.
Retired General Aminu Bande, the PDP’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in the state, lauded the security agencies, representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and various media organisations for ensuring a smooth and credible process. He expressed confidence that the party would achieve victory in the 2027 general elections, stating that they are now looking forward to the State Executive Congress (SEC) scheduled for September 27.
The monitoring team visited several local government areas, including Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, Bunza, Jega, and Argungu, during the exercise. The successful conduct of the local government congresses is a significant step for the PDP, as it prepares for the 2027 general elections. With the party’s national leadership remaining united and focused on progress and success, the PDP is poised to make a strong showing in the upcoming elections. The outcome of the SEC will be closely watched, as it will set the stage for the party’s campaign in the 2027 general elections.
