Max Verstappen secured a dominant victory at the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, earning his sixth career Grand Slam. The Dutch driver led from start to finish, finishing more than 14 seconds ahead of second‑place George Russell. This win marks Verstappen’s fourth of the season and follows a recent resurgence after a mid‑season dip in form.
Verstappen had taken pole position in a challenging qualifying session, where midfield cars threatened his lead. He excelled at the race start, maintained his advantage throughout, and managed the safety‑car restart without losing pace. His Red Bull performed impressively on both compound tires, allowing him to preserve his tyres while staying ahead.
After the race, Verstappen’s partner Kelly Piquet celebrated on Instagram with a one‑word story: “Woooooooohoooooooooo.” Although she was not at the circuit, her excitement was evident.
The win has significant championship implications. Verstappen now trails leader Oscar Piastri by 69 points after Piastri crashed on the opening lap. Since the summer break, the reigning champion has scored the most points of any driver. In a post‑race interview, Verstappen said, “I think this weekend has been incredible for us. The car was working really well on both compounds, and we had clean air all the time.” He added, “Singapore will be a completely different challenge again with the high downforce, so we’ll see what we can do there.”
Verstappen’s triumph in Azerbaijan boosts his championship hopes, and he will aim to maintain his strong form in the upcoming races. With his fourth win of the season, he has reaffirmed his status as a leading contender in the 2025 Formula 1 championship.
