The Transmission Commission of Nigeria has announced plans to restore bulk electricity supply to parts of Kaduna State, which have been experiencing a blackout for several days. In a statement posted on the commission’s X account on Monday, officials said engineers are working to complete the re‑erection of a collapsed electricity tower in Rigasa.
The tower’s collapse was initially attributed to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that affected southern Kaduna. Subsequent investigations, however, revealed that vandalism also contributed to the failure. Damaged tower members have been dismantled and replaced, along with the vandalized sections, and significant progress has been made in the re‑erection process. The commission noted that the tower’s reconstruction is nearing completion, with line tensioning to follow shortly.
The engineering crew is committed to finishing the work swiftly so that bulk power transmission along the 132 kV line can be restored as quickly as possible. This development is expected to bring relief to residents and businesses that have been without electricity for an extended period, a situation that has severely impacted daily life, economic activities, and essential services in Kaduna State.
As the tower’s re‑erection nears completion, residents can anticipate a gradual restoration of electricity supply, paving the way for a return to normal activities. The commission’s update offers a glimmer of hope for those who have been waiting for a resolution to the prolonged blackout, and the diligent efforts of the engineering team suggest that bulk electricity supply will be restored to the affected areas soon, ending the challenges associated with the outage.
