Drone sightings force airport shutdowns in Denmark and Norway — RT World News

Major airports in Norway and Denmark have faced significant disruptions after multiple drone sightings near runways, causing widespread delays and cancellations. In Denmark, Copenhagen Airport—the busiest in the Nordic region—was forced to close its airspace at 8:30 p.m. local time when two or three large drones were spotted. The closure halted all take‑offs and landings, affecting roughly 30 departures and 20,000 passengers. Copenhagen police deputy assistant commissioner Jakob Hansen said an intensive investigation has been launched to identify the drones, but as of 10:15 p.m. no arrests had been made and the drones had disappeared. Airspace reopened at 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday, yet airport officials warned that delays and cancellations would continue.

In Norway, Oslo Airport closed its airspace from midnight after a drone was observed, according to a spokesperson for airport operator Avinor. All departing flights were cancelled or delayed, and arrivals were diverted to Gothenburg and Malmö in Sweden until the airport reopened around 3:22 a.m. on Tuesday. Danish and Norwegian police are cooperating to investigate possible links between the incidents.

Separately, Oslo Police arrested two Singaporean nationals accused of flying drones over Akershus Fortress, a medieval castle used for government events. It remains unclear whether this case is connected to the airport disruption.

These events occurred just days after major European airports experienced electronic check‑in and boarding outages, which caused widespread delays and 73 cancelled flights at London’s Heathrow and airports in Berlin and Brussels. Several media outlets linked those outages to a cyberattack on service provider Collins Aerospace.

The drone incidents at Norwegian and Danish airports highlight the need for stronger security measures. Authorities in both countries are working together to determine the cause of the sightings and to prevent future occurrences. As investigations continue, passengers should expect residual delays and cancellations, underscoring the importance of cooperation between law‑enforcement agencies.
