Family member provides details on abduction of Plateau lawmaker

A Plateau State lawmaker, Hon. Denty Laven Jacob, who represents the Pankshin South Constituency, was abducted by unknown gunmen from his home in the Jos North Local Government Area on Monday. The kidnapping took place in the Dong community, an area that has recently seen a surge in kidnapping and other criminal activities. According to an anonymous family member, Jacob was seized as he returned home from an outing with friends, and it is suspected that the kidnappers had followed him from the venue.

As of Tuesday morning, the abductors had not contacted the family to demand a ransom, and Jacob’s condition remains unknown. The family member expressed deep concern about the growing insecurity in the region, recalling a recent incident in which a social‑media food vendor and her brother, a corps member, were kidnapped and later released after a ransom was paid.

The Plateau State government, police and other security agencies have not issued an official statement on the abduction. This incident adds to an escalating wave of insecurity in the state, which has experienced a significant rise in criminal activities in recent months. The kidnapping of Hon. Denty Laven Jacob underscores the need for stronger security measures to combat the increasing threat of kidnapping and other crimes, particularly in the Dong community.

The lawmaker’s family is awaiting news about his condition and any potential demands from the kidnappers. The episode serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing Plateau State and the urgent need for authorities to take decisive action.
