'I was shot at 10 times' - Alhaji Popping recalls near-death experience

Nigerian singer and music executive Tobi Mohammed, known as Alhaji Popping, recently recounted a harrowing experience that nearly cost him his life. In 2017, while traveling with his colleague Rayce in Bauchi State, their car was fired upon ten times by men dressed in military uniforms. The barrage damaged the steering wheel, air‑conditioning system and boot, yet neither Alhaji Popping nor Rayce was injured. He attributes his survival to divine intervention, saying the ordeal has deepened his faith and given him a renewed appreciation for life.

Alhaji Popping shared the story on the Adesope Live show, revealing that he had never told his family about the incident. He expressed gratitude for the narrow escape and reflected on how the experience has heightened his understanding of grace. The 2017 attack underscores the persistent security challenges in northern Nigeria, where Bauchi State has faced repeated incidents of terrorism and militant violence.

His testimony stands as a testament to the resilience of those who endure such trauma. By speaking publicly, Alhaji Popping highlights the broader impact of terrorism on individuals and communities. As the Nigerian music industry continues to grow, the personal stories of its artists remind us of the complex challenges confronting the country and its people.
