Michael Porter Jr criticized for rent comments

NBA forward Michael Porter Jr. has sparked controversy after revealing that he still splits rent payments with an ex-girlfriend. According to Porter Jr., he initially requested that his girlfriend pay half the rent to ensure she was in the relationship for the right reasons. Despite their breakup, he has continued to pay his share of the rent.

The situation has drawn criticism from several individuals, including rapper Cam’ron, who discussed the matter on the “It Is What It Is” podcast. Cam’ron’s comments also touched on Porter Jr.’s racial background, sparking further debate. Former NFL player Adam “Pacman” Jones, a guest on the same podcast, argued that as a man, Porter Jr. should take care of the rent, rather than splitting it with his partner.

Porter Jr. has not responded to the criticism. In related news, the Brooklyn Nets forward has listed his Denver apartment for sale ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season. The three-bedroom unit, located in the Four Seasons Residences, is priced at $5.25 million, which is $750,000 more than Porter Jr. paid for it in 2021. The apartment features walls of glass, marble floors, and polished surfaces, as well as two expansive covered balconies with mountain and urban views.

Porter Jr.’s decision to sell his Denver apartment comes after he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets this offseason. The move suggests that he is making a permanent transition to New York. The controversy surrounding his rent payments has highlighted the complexities of relationships and financial responsibilities, sparking a wider conversation about expectations and boundaries in romantic partnerships.
