Kelechi Iheanacho scored for Leicester City during their 2-1 home defeat to Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup fifth round. This goal marked a significant achievement for the Nigerian international, as it set a new record in the competition. Despite his personal success, Iheanacho expressed disappointment that the Foxes were eliminated by their second-tier opponents. With this goal, he has now scored 18 times in 24 FA Cup matches for both Manchester City and Leicester, making him the most prolific player in the tournament at present.

The 26-year-old came off the bench to find the net, but unfortunately, his efforts were not enough to prevent Leicester’s exit from the competition. His tally of 18 goals has only been surpassed or matched by 11 players, all of whom have since retired from professional football. Reflecting on his goal, Iheanacho shared his thoughts on Leicester City’s official website, stating, “It was a good ball from Barnsey (Harvey Barnes) on the flank, taking it well and working the man, cutting it back. It was the right cross at the right time. Hopefully, there’s more to come, but we’re out of the competition now.”

Iheanacho also conveyed his disappointment regarding the team’s elimination, saying, “It’s a tough one to take. As I said, we need to do more to stay in the league and get up there.” He added, “I am so disappointed; I don’t even have the words now, especially because we were at home. We did our bit, but it was not enough. If you don’t do what you have to do, you get punished. We just have to look forward to the Premier League and do better.” Notably, Tottenham striker Harry Kane is the closest active player to Iheanacho, with 17 goals in 26 FA Cup matches, all scored for Tottenham.
