Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, who represents Cross River North, has clarified that the label “Governor of the North” is misleading. In a statement, the Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker said he values the goodwill of his supporters but does not identify with titles that are not his.
According to Senator Jarigbe, Cross River State has only one recognized governor—Bassey Otu of the All Progressives Congress—who is the constitutionally mandated leader of the state. The senator reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Otu and urged his constituents to direct their support and respect to the governor, emphasizing collaboration over competition as the way to deliver democratic dividends to the people.
Jarigbe warned against misrepresenting his office, noting that political enthusiasm should not eclipse respect for established authority. He attributed his stance to an upbringing that emphasized respect for leadership, a principle he adheres to firmly. He also cautioned against exaggerating issues for political gain, as such actions can sow discord, and stressed that leadership is about unity and service rather than rivalry.
In his call for unity, Senator Jarigbe urged the people of Cross River State to come together with a singular purpose, focusing on building a stronger state. He assured his constituents that he will continue to advocate for their interests at the National Assembly while maintaining due respect for the governor’s office. This stance reflects his commitment to serving the people of Cross River North and contributing to the state’s development through his legislative role.
The clarification comes at a time when unity and collaborative governance are increasingly seen as crucial for Cross River’s progress. By reaffirming his support for the constituted authority and promoting a united front, Senator Jarigbe demonstrates his dedication to the welfare and advancement of the state and its people. As the political landscape evolves, his commitment to respectful, collaborative governance is likely to play a significant role in shaping Cross River State’s future.
