Nigerian Minister Mr. Wike has expressed condolences to the management and staff of Arise News Channel following the death of their employee, Somtochukwu Maduagwu. In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister described the loss as tragic and painful.

Maduagwu was brought to Maitama General Hospital dead on Monday at about 4:30 a.m., according to a report by the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s Mandate Secretary on Health, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe. The minister assured that the police will investigate the circumstances surrounding her death and bring those responsible to justice. He noted that her passing is not only a loss to the Arise News family but also to the Nigerian media and the nation as a whole.

The minister called for continuous prayers and support for the staff and management of Arise News, particularly Chairman Nduka Obaigbena, as well as for the family and friends of the deceased. He prayed that God would accept Maduagwu’s soul and give her loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.

Maduagwu’s death has shaken the Nigerian media, prompting widespread shock and sadness and highlighting the importance of ensuring the safety and well‑being of media professionals in the country. As the investigation continues, the nation awaits the outcome and hopes for justice to be served. Her colleagues and friends will deeply miss her, and the minister’s statement reinforces the need for a thorough inquiry into the circumstances of her death.
