Threads introduces communities for live events and discussions

Threads, a social media platform, has introduced a new feature called Communities, which aims to create a more connected experience for users watching live events. According to a blog post by the company, Communities are “public, casual spaces where users can exchange unique perspectives and join conversations about various topics.” The feature is currently being tested globally with popular interests such as the NBA, WNBA, TV, and KPOP.

To join a community, users can search for it in the top right corner of the app and click “Join” if the category is available. Joined communities will be added to the user’s feeds, accessible through the hamburger menu. Each community has its own custom Like emoji, which can be seen when liking a post within that community. For instance, the Book Threads community features a stack of books, while the WNBA Threads community features a basketball.

The company has already launched over 100 communities, with more to come soon. Standout community contributors will receive special badges, and the platform is working on ranking posts within communities and the For You feed to prioritize relevant content. This update follows a beta test of the feature, which was made available to select users, including social media influencers.

The introduction of Communities on Threads is part of the platform’s efforts to enhance user engagement and create a more interactive experience. The feature is particularly useful for live events, such as sports games, where users can connect with others in real-time and share their thoughts and opinions. As the platform continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Communities on Threads develop and impact user behavior.

With the rollout of this new feature, Threads is taking a significant step towards creating a more immersive and social experience for its users. As the platform expands its community offerings, it is likely to attract more users and increase engagement. The company’s focus on creating a more connected and interactive experience is a key aspect of its growth strategy, and the introduction of Communities is a significant milestone in this effort.
