Plateau will remain PDP state even if Gov Mutfwang defects - Ex-Senate Minority leader, Mwadkwon

Former Nigerian Senate Minority Leader Senator Simon Mwadkwon has expressed confidence that Plateau State will remain a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), regardless of Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Mwadkwon’s remarks come amid speculation that Mutfwang may leave the PDP to contest the 2027 governorship under the APC banner. Speaking to journalists in Jos, the former Plateau North Senator dismissed suggestions of a defection, noting the governor’s recent denial of such rumors.

Mwadkwon emphasized that Plateau State’s affinity for the PDP is unwavering. He argued that the people’s deep‑seated loyalty to the party would persist even if Governor Mutfwang were to leave. Accordingly, he advised the governor to remain in the PDP, stating that it is in his best interest to do so. The former senator also expressed confidence that the PDP would find a suitable replacement for Mutfwang should he defect, and that the party would ultimately emerge victorious in the 2027 election.

Mutfwang has publicly denied any intention of joining the APC on several occasions, which Mwadkwon cited as evidence that a defection is unlikely. The former senator’s comments are significant given the ongoing speculation about Mutfwang’s potential move and its possible impact on Plateau’s political landscape. Historically, the PDP has maintained a strong presence in the state, and Mwadkwon’s statements suggest the party is well‑positioned to retain its dominance, regardless of the governor’s actions. As the 2027 election approaches, the dynamics of Plateau State’s politics will likely continue to evolve, with the PDP and APC vying for control.
