The Los Angeles Dodgers have secured a National League Division Series matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies after defeating the Cincinnati Reds in consecutive games during the NL Wild Card series.

Three‑time MVP Shohei Ohtani is slated to start the NLDS opener, marking his first postseason start on the mound. In previous postseasons he was limited to a designated‑hitter role while recovering from elbow surgery. Ahead of his highly anticipated start, Ohtani commented on the passionate fans and electric atmosphere in Philadelphia, even joking about the Phillies’ cheesesteaks served in the clubhouse.

Although he has postseason experience, Ohtani admitted he feels nervous about his first start, but he expressed gratitude for being healthy and having the chance to play in October. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts plans to treat Ohtani like any other pitcher, potentially allowing him to work into the seventh inning.

Ohtani’s season has been remarkable, highlighted by 55 regular‑season home runs—surpassing his previous personal best—and his dual threat as both pitcher and hitter has made him a cornerstone of the Dodgers’ lineup.

As the NLDS begins, Ohtani’s start on Saturday is expected to be a pivotal moment that could shape the series. Both the Dodgers and the Phillies are eager to gain an early advantage and advance to the next round of the playoffs. The matchup promises excitement for baseball fans worldwide, with Ohtani’s performance likely to play a major role in determining the outcome.
