The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has voiced confidence that the South West will continue to back President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. This response follows claims by supporters of Dr. Gbenga Olawepo‑Hashim, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, that the region would not re‑elect Tinubu.
APC spokesman Seye Oladejo dismissed Olawepo‑Hashim’s prospects, noting that he lacks a strong political structure and the electoral capacity needed to win a national contest. Oladejo described him as a “perennial aspirant” who may gather endorsements, but such support does not necessarily translate into votes. Even if Olawepo‑Hashim became the PDP’s presidential candidate, Oladejo argued, he would likely be defeated.
Oladejo criticized the aspirant’s attempts to downplay the Tinubu administration’s achievements, calling them “distasteful and unacceptable.” He highlighted visible and irreversible progress in infrastructure, education, agriculture, security, and fiscal reforms. According to Oladejo, the PDP’s reliance on sentiment and nostalgia rather than competence and delivery will not sway voters.
The APC spokesman emphasized that Nigerians will not abandon the current progress under Tinubu for “recycled excuses” from the opposition. He urged the opposition to focus on governance instead of issuing press releases, asserting that voters will choose continuity with a president who has delivered results in 2027.
Support from the South West is seen as crucial for Tinubu’s re‑election, and the APC’s statement reflects confidence in maintaining that backing despite opposition claims. As the election approaches, the contest between the APC and the PDP is expected to intensify, with each party striving to win over voters.
