Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has been urged by Senator Adams Oshiomhole to refrain from contesting the 2027 presidential election in order to preserve his legacy. Oshiomhole made the remark during an appearance on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics” programme, emphasizing that only those who wish Jonathan harm would encourage him to run again.
The senator noted that Jonathan’s experience as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2015 presidential election—where he lost to the late President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC)—suggests he would likely face defeat again if he entered the 2027 race. Oshiomhole warned that Jonathan’s enemies might be the ones pushing him to run, a move that could tarnish his reputation.
Nevertheless, Oshiomhole praised Jonathan for maintaining relevance and peace outside of power, describing this as a noteworthy achievement.
