APC Vows to Win Abia State with People’s Votes in 2027

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will rely on the votes of the people to win elections in Abia State in 2027, rather than using federal government force. He made this declaration while addressing members of Renewed Hope Partners and other APC members in Umuahia on Sunday.

Kalu emphasized the importance of obtaining voter’s cards, currently being issued through the ongoing continuous voters’ registration, as a means to “sack the ruling Abia government” in 2027. He assured that the APC’s strategy for taking over the state would be through the democratic process, using the votes of the masses. This approach, according to Kalu, is in contrast to concerns that the party might utilize federal government power to influence election outcomes.

The Deputy Speaker also criticized the performance of the Labour Party-led administration in Abia State, suggesting that it has underperformed compared to previous governments. He cited the examples of former governors Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu, who, he claimed, achieved more with fewer resources. Kalu attributed the current administration’s shortcomings to its inability to effectively utilize the larger monthly FAAC allocations it receives.

Furthermore, Kalu expressed confidence that Abia residents are prepared to re-elect President Bola Tinubu in 2027, based on his achievements and the financial support he has made available to state governors, including those in Abia. Despite facing criticism for his recent comments on the Abia State government, Kalu vowed to continue speaking out as “the leader of the opposition in the State.”

The APC’s commitment to democratic processes and its criticism of the current administration’s performance reflect the ongoing political dynamics in Abia State.
