The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), a socio‑cultural organization in Nigeria, has reiterated its commitment to political neutrality ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at a meeting in Kaduna, Bashir Dalhatu, chairman of the Board of Trustees, stressed that while members may belong to any political party, the ACF itself will not endorse any particular party. He explained that the forum’s focus is on promoting good governance, democracy, and national unity, and that it typically outlines the qualities expected of individuals seeking public office rather than supporting specific parties or candidates.
As a regional organization, the ACF aims to advance the interests of the Northern States while contributing to Nigeria’s overall development. Dalhatu also addressed the proliferation of non‑governmental groups and associations in the North, describing it as “unhealthy.” He emphasized the importance of unity and speaking with one voice on issues affecting the region. The ACF was founded in 2000 by Northern leaders—including former presidents, governors, and traditional rulers—to foster unity and harmony among Northerners. To achieve this, several civil‑society groups were persuaded to dissolve and merge with the ACF.
Dalhatu urged anyone considering the creation of parallel or splinter groups to reconsider and join the ACF, emphasizing that there is room for all Northerners within the organization. This call for unity is significant as the ACF seeks to maintain its relevance and influence in the region. As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections, the forum’s commitment to neutrality and unity will be closely watched.
