Veteran Nollywood actor Alhaji Babatunde Bamgbode, known professionally as Baba Fokoko, has publicly contradicted his colleagues’ claims about rewards for supporting the 2023 election campaign. Several Nollywood celebrities—including Lalude, Alapini, Toyin Abraham, Olaiye Igwe, Seyi Law, Eniola Badmus, and Foluke Daramola—had expressed disappointment at not receiving compensation for backing Tinubu’s presidency during the 2023 general elections. In June 2025, Alapini voiced regret over the lack of payment, prompting a wave of similar complaints. Lalude then accused MC Oluomo, president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), of failing to fulfill promised rewards.
In a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, Baba Fokoko disputed Lalude’s allegations, stating that MC Oluomo never promised any rewards to the group. According to Baba Fokoko, Oluomo provided food during the campaign and instructed the celebrities to share the remaining items among themselves. He emphasized that while Oluomo’s gesture was appreciated, there was never an expectation of post‑campaign compensation.
Baba Fokoko’s clarification brings new perspective to the controversy, underscoring the need for clear communication between celebrities and political supporters. The dispute over alleged election‑campaign rewards has sparked broader debate about the relationships among entertainers, politicians, and their backers. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how the involved parties will address the concerns and misunderstandings that have emerged. Given the Nigerian entertainment industry’s significant cultural influence, the actions and statements of its members carry far‑reaching implications, making transparency and accountability essential.
