PDP explains reason for dissolving Akwa Ibom executives

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is preparing for its national convention, scheduled for November 15–16. Party National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba said Nigerians are eager to see the PDP “put its house in order,” noting that the strong interest in the convention reflects the public’s love for and belief in the party. He added that the upcoming national elective convention is crucial for the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria, which explains the enthusiasm surrounding it.

The PDP governed the country for 16 years, a period many Nigerians regard as a glorious era of development and hope. During that time the party paid off debts, achieved double‑digit GDP growth, contained inflation, and invested in human‑capital development. Under PDP rule, Nigeria’s economy became the largest in Africa, valued at over $600 billion by 2015, and the nation emerged as a top destination for foreign capital investment.

Ologunagba said party members are already working together to make the convention a success, having established 15 broad‑based sub‑committees to ensure inclusivity. He dismissed speculation that a PDP governor might defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing that the PDP is more than any individual and that such a move would not affect the convention. He also confirmed that the PDP concluded its congress in Edo State on September 27, convened by a properly constituted committee, and that an appeal panel has been set up to address any concerns arising from the congress.

The national convention is expected to be a significant event, with many Nigerians watching to see how the party will move forward. Its outcome will likely influence the country’s political landscape, especially in the lead‑up to future elections. As the PDP prepares for the convention, it remains to be seen how the party will address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
