APC lacks spirit of democratic sportsmanship - PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its stability and cohesion amid reports of possible defections by some of its governors. Party National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba emphasized that the PDP’s foundation rests on the people, not on individual ambitions. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Ologunagba said the party remains focused on its goals and will not be swayed by what he called “orchestrated defections” allegedly engineered by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He noted that the attention generated by these reports underscores the growing national interest in the PDP and its activities ahead of the 2025 National Convention. Ologunagba highlighted the party’s institutional strength and democratic ideals, which have enabled it to endure more turbulent periods in the past. Despite the departure of top figures, including presidents and vice‑presidents, the PDP has survived because it is built on enduring values rather than personalities.

According to Ologunagba, the party’s resilience stems from its strong, people‑based foundation, which he believes distinguishes it as a truly democratic party in Nigeria. He stressed that the PDP is built on ideas, convictions, and policies, not on individual interests. As the party prepares for its 2025 National Convention, its ability to maintain unity and strength will be closely watched. With the Nigerian political landscape evolving, the PDP’s commitment to democratic ideals and a people‑centric approach will likely face scrutiny, and its next steps in navigating the current climate will be crucial to its future prospects.
