On Thursday, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, congratulated President-elect Bola Tinubu on his victory in the recent presidential election. Aregbesola acknowledged the long and challenging journey Tinubu has undertaken in politics, emphasizing that he deserves commendation for this significant achievement. He noted that Tinubu’s success would involve the consolidation of the extensive infrastructural development and progressive policies established by the outgoing President.
Aregbesola expressed his congratulations on behalf of the leadership of their party, including President Muhammadu Buhari (retd), Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the National Chairman, and other members of the National Executive Council, as well as the Presidential Campaign Council and party members nationwide. He specifically congratulated both Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, the Vice President-elect, for their victory in the February 25, 2023, presidential election.
Reflecting on Tinubu’s political journey, Aregbesola recounted the various milestones, from the primrose circle and senatorial bid to the Justice Forum/June 12/NADECO struggle, the Sunday Adigun/BATCO governorship struggle, and the governorship experience during the MANDATE era in Lagos. He highlighted the resurgence of progressive tendencies in Western Nigeria and the consolidation of progressive influence across the country, culminating in Tinubu’s ascension to the presidency. Aregbesola stated, “You deserve every commendation as we equally give glory to God for His mercy.”
Aregbesola urged the president-elect to prioritize the betterment of citizens and to ensure that Nigeria fulfills its historic responsibilities to Africans. He remarked, “This victory is a call to duty.” He expressed his hope that Tinubu’s administration would build upon the eight years of significant infrastructure development and progressive policies of President Buhari’s government, while also deepening the democratic process, advancing social democracy, promoting party discipline, and guaranteeing a better life for all. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of Nigeria’s role as a leader for both Africa and the Black Race.
