Emergency rule: Tinubu acted in good faith - APC cheiftain, Oyintiloye

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged Nigeria’s service chiefs to adopt a tougher stance on violent crime. Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, he acknowledged the efforts of security agencies but stressed the need for more decisive action to curb killings in the north and other parts of the country.

Oyintiloye expressed concern over the surge in attacks by suspected bandits in states such as Kwara, Borno, Zamfara and Niger. He called on the heads of security agencies to take bold measures against the perpetrators and their sponsors, noting that despite ongoing operations many Nigerians still live in fear and anxiety. He emphasized that service chiefs must intensify their campaigns against terrorist groups and ensure that security forces are not harboring saboteurs.

The APC chieftain suggested that involving local security networks in intelligence gathering could be crucial. By engaging stakeholders in different communities, agencies can obtain valuable information to prevent terrorist activities and attacks. He also highlighted the importance of targeting the financial backbone of terrorist groups to complement existing efforts.

Oyintiloye commended President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for providing necessary support and budgetary allocations to security agencies. He argued that cooperation from all stakeholders, combined with faith, patriotism and honesty, will enable Nigeria to overcome its insecurity challenges. The call for increased action comes as the country grapples with rising banditry and terrorist activity, which have caused loss of life and widespread fear. Involving local communities and disrupting terrorist financing could be key strategies in restoring peace and stability.
