LASTMA cracks down on event centres, nightclubs over traffic obstruction in Lagos

The Lagos State Transport Management Agency (LASTMA) has introduced drones and other technologies to minimize human contact in traffic management, thereby enhancing efficiency and safety. This development was announced by LASTMA’s Director of Logistics and Transport, Mr. Jubrin Oshodi, at the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Awards and Dinner in Abuja.

According to Oshodi, the agency has deployed a traffic‑management solution device that conducts enforcement while reducing physical interactions between operatives and violators. In addition, drones are being used to monitor and manage traffic, providing real‑time information on road incidents. This technology enables LASTMA to respond promptly to incidents and improve overall traffic flow.

LASTMA’s efforts were recognized with the award for Best State Traffic Management Agency. Oshodi attributed the achievement to the agency’s challenging journey of development and improvement, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safe mobility, deploying advanced paradigms, and driving economic prosperity for the benefit of the state and Nigeria. The agency is also leveraging technology for data collection to record road traffic incidents effectively, a move expected to enhance response to incidents and inform policy decisions.

Dr. Bayero Farah, Director‑General of NITT, noted that the award aims to recognize and encourage outstanding companies and individuals in the transport sector. This year, 15 awardees were honored for their significant contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s transport system. The recognition underscores the importance of innovative approaches to traffic management, such as LASTMA’s use of technology, in enhancing the efficiency and safety of transportation systems.
