Lagos LASTMA Deploy Drones Technology Traffic Management

The Lagos State Transport Management Agency (LASTMA) has introduced the use of drones and technology to minimize human contact in traffic management, enhancing efficiency and safety. This development was announced by LASTMA’s Director of Logistics and Transport, Mr. Jubrin Oshodi, at the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Awards and Dinner in Abuja.

According to Oshodi, the agency has deployed a traffic management solution device to conduct enforcement, reducing physical interactions between operatives and violators. Additionally, drones are being utilized to monitor and manage traffic, providing real-time information on road traffic incidents. This technology enables the agency to respond promptly to incidents and improve overall traffic flow.

LASTMA’s efforts have been recognized with the award for Best State Traffic Management Agency. Oshodi attributed the achievement to the agency’s challenging journey of development and improvement. He emphasized the importance of ensuring safe mobility, deploying advanced paradigms, and driving economic prosperity for the benefit of the state and Nigeria.

The agency is also leveraging technology for data collection to record road traffic incidents effectively. This approach is expected to enhance the agency’s response to incidents and inform policy decisions.

Dr. Bayero Farah, Director-General of NITT, noted that the award aims to recognize and encourage outstanding companies and individuals in the transport sector. This year, 15 awardees were honored for their significant contributions to the growth of the transport system in Nigeria. The recognition underscores the importance of innovative approaches to traffic management, such as LASTMA’s use of technology, in enhancing the efficiency and safety of transportation systems.
