Dr. Waripamo‑Owei Dudafa, a former senior aide to ex‑President Goodluck Jonathan, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). Dudafa, who served as Senior Special Assistant to Jonathan on Domestic Matters and Social Events, announced his decision in a statement to journalists in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State’s capital, on October 18, 2025.
In his resignation letter to the PDP Chairman of Southern Opokuma/Ayibabiri Ward 8 in Kolokuma Opukuma Local Government Area, Dudafa cited unresolved disputes within the party—particularly at the national level—as the primary reason for his departure. He affirmed his commitment to serving the people’s best interests, driven by a dedication to their welfare and progress.
Dudafa, a former Commissioner and the youngest member ever elected to the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, said his decision followed deep reflection and consultation with associates, supporters, and family members. Regarded as a close associate of former President Jonathan, he now views the APC as offering renewed hope, unity, and a stronger foundation to address Bayelsa’s challenges. He urged his supporters to remain steadfast and expressed eagerness to work with new colleagues who share his vision.
His defection is seen as a significant development that could signal realignments ahead of future political events in Bayelsa and nationally. As a prominent figure in Bayelsa politics, Dudafa’s move is likely to influence the state’s political landscape. Observers anticipate that his experience and influence will help shape the APC’s agenda in Bayelsa, and they are closely watching how this shift will affect upcoming elections.
