Rivers APC Defends Strategy Amid Calls for Wike to Join

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanu protests, describing them as orchestrated tension and politically motivated street agitations. According to the party, the demonstrations are not a legitimate call for justice but a display of reckless politics scripted by desperate opposition figures. APC state spokesman Mogaji Seye Oladejo said the protests represent the height of bitter and destructive politics, aimed at exploiting national issues for cheap relevance. He noted that certain opposition leaders are endorsing and sponsoring the protests, which he called a classic case of deceitful manipulation hidden behind the façade of activism.

Oladejo emphasized that the protests are insensitive to the victims of years of mindless bloodshed, kidnappings, and enforced sit‑at‑home orders in the South East. He argued that the organizers and sponsors ignore the tears of widows, the pains of orphans, and the devastation of communities ruined by senseless violence. Instead of standing with their people to heal these wounds, these political opportunists are fanning the embers of division, hoping to profit from instability.

The APC spokesman underscored that no one is above the law and that the case of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu remains a judicial matter properly before the courts. He expressed confidence in Nigeria’s judiciary, stating that it is competent, independent, and capable of delivering justice without recourse to mob pressure or street intimidation. Oladejo also highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which is working to rebuild the economy, restore investor confidence, and foster national unity. He noted the administration’s remarkable inclusivity, with the South East occupying key national positions and benefiting from renewed infrastructural development.

The APC called on security agencies to remain vigilant and on all patriotic Nigerians—especially thought leaders in the South East—to reject the antics of those who traffic in bitterness. The party emphasized that Nigeria belongs to all its citizens and that political desperation should not be allowed to tear the nation apart. Its stance highlights the need for cooperation and peace in addressing the country’s challenges, rather than resorting to chaos and destructive politics. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the protests will impact the country’s stability and the government’s efforts to promote national unity.
