Musician John Zuya dies after eating poisoned food in Bauchi

Traditional musician John Zuya, also known as John Mai Molo, has passed away in Bauchi State, Nigeria. The renowned artist allegedly consumed poisoned food in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, leading to his death.

Zuya had recently returned to Bauchi from Lagos, where he performed at several cultural events, concluding his trip on October 16, 2025. Upon his return, he reportedly ate a meal that made him feel unwell, and he subsequently collapsed. He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, where he was pronounced dead.

Fellow musician and close associate Emma Wakili announced Zuya’s passing on Facebook, stating that he died at approximately 7:00 a.m. on October 18, 2025. The body has been taken to the hospital’s mortuary for an autopsy, as authorities continue to investigate the cause of death.

John Zuya was a prominent figure in traditional music, with a career spanning several years. His performances at cultural events in Lagos showcased his talent and dedication to his craft.
