Traditional musician John Zuya, also known as John Mai Molo, has died in Bauchi State, Nigeria. The renowned artist allegedly consumed poisoned food in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, which led to his death. After a recent trip to Lagos, where he performed at several cultural events, Zuya returned to Bauchi on October 16, 2025. Shortly after his arrival, he ate a meal that made him feel unwell, and he subsequently collapsed.

He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:00 a.m. on October 18, 2025. Fellow musician and close associate Emma Wakili announced Zuya’s passing on Facebook. The body has been taken to the hospital’s mortuary for an autopsy, and authorities are investigating the cause of death.

John Zuya was a prominent figure in traditional music, with a career spanning several years. His performances at cultural events in Lagos showcased his talent and dedication to his craft. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation, and the autopsy results are expected to provide crucial insights into the poisoning, helping authorities piece together the events leading to his tragic passing.
