Remain Steadfast, Impartial, and Incorruptible — Tinubu Tells Nigerian Judiciary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Nigerian judiciary to remain steadfast, impartial, and incorruptible, warning that “the collapse of any society begins when those entrusted with interpreting its laws become compromised.”

The President’s message was delivered by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday during the EFCC–National Judicial Institute Workshop for Justices and Judges held in Abuja, according to a post shared on the Vice President’s official X handle.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of judicial officers, noting that recent remuneration reviews are part of broader efforts to strengthen judicial independence.

“We draw our moral distinction as a people from the judiciary, and we owe it the reverence and autonomy to remain the last sanctuary of our collective conscience,”
he stated.

The President emphasised that the moral foundation of Nigeria rests on the integrity of its judicial system, insisting that justice must remain a guiding principle for peace and national progress.

Addressing concerns about delays in high-profile corruption cases, Tinubu contrasted them with the swift handling of cybercrime prosecutions, urging the judiciary to demonstrate fairness, transparency, and efficiency in all cases — especially those involving economic and financial crimes.

He further noted that his administration’s justice reform agenda extends beyond pay raises, focusing on providing the judiciary with the autonomy and tools needed to fulfil its constitutional responsibilities without interference.

The workshop, jointly organised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Judicial Institute (NJI), aims to strengthen collaboration between judges and anti-corruption agencies, promote judicial integrity, and enhance the efficiency of justice delivery across Nigeria.
