Yoruba Monarchs Unite for Peace and Cultural Preservation

In a historic meeting, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, reaffirmed their commitment to unity and cultural preservation in Yorubaland. Convened by Sir Dr Kessington Adebutu, the landmark encounter took place at the Eko Hotel Signature Building in Lagos as part of his birthday celebration.

The gathering resulted in the creation of the Joint Council for Yoruba Unity, a collaborative platform aimed at fostering peace, cultural preservation, and socioeconomic development across Yoruba communities. In a joint communiqué, the monarchs emphasized that unity and collective progress are essential to the Yoruba nation, describing the encounter as a turning point in Yoruba history and highlighting the importance of harmony and mutual respect among all Yoruba people.

Prominent Yoruba leaders, traditional rulers, and cultural custodians attended the meeting, discussing ways to strengthen inter‑kingdom relations and promote reconciliation and cooperation. The Ooni and Alaafin jointly invoked divine blessings for peace, prosperity, and progress in Yorubaland, Nigeria, and Africa, concluding the ceremony with an exchange of royal blessings and goodwill between the two ancient thrones.

Sir Adebutu expressed his joy at witnessing the renewed bond between the monarchs, calling the meeting a significant milestone for peace, unity, and development among the Yoruba people. The communiqué was signed jointly by the Ooni and Alaafin, witnessed by Sir Dr Kessington Adebutu, and formally issued by Aare Dr Kola Oyefeso, Secretary of the Communiqué Drafting Committee.
