APC lacks spirit of democratic sportsmanship - PDP

A group of advocates for the Peoples Democratic Party, known as PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice, has expressed optimism about the party’s future following the nomination of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as the consensus candidate for national chairmanship. Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, was selected by the party’s Northern elders and other stakeholders. The nomination is viewed as a strategic move ahead of the 2025 National Elective Convention in Ibadan, scheduled for November 15‑16, and the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Tom FredFish, chairman of PAPaJ, said the development signals a rebirth of hope and a repositioning of the PDP. He praised the northern elders for their decision, describing it as an act of patriotism and statesmanship. According to Dr. FredFish, Turaki’s appointment is expected to bring renewed stability, strengthen internal democracy, and reactivate grassroots structures within the party. He expressed confidence that the new leadership will rekindle public confidence across Nigeria and called on stakeholders from other regions to follow the northern elders’ example by embracing peace, unity, and consensus‑building in the interest of both the party and the nation.

The nomination comes at a time when Nigeria faces hardship, insecurity, and poor governance. The PDP is seeking to reclaim power in the 2027 general elections, and Turaki’s selection is seen as a crucial step toward that goal. With the national convention approaching, the appointment is expected to set the tone for reconciliation, discipline, and proactive leadership. PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice has urged all stakeholders to work together toward a common objective, emphasizing unity and consensus‑building as essential to the party’s quest for power. As the 2027 elections draw near, presenting a united front will be vital to the PDP’s success. The party now focuses on the tasks ahead, including the national convention and the general elections, viewing Turaki’s nomination as a positive development.
