The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage in parts of Abuja, the country’s capital, due to road construction activities. The outage, scheduled to last from October 27 to November 16, will affect the 132-kilovolt Gwagwalada–Kukwaba–Apo double-circuit transmission line, resulting in temporary disruptions to bulk electricity supply in several areas.
The affected areas include Apo, Lokogoma, Guzape, Asokoro, Wuye, Utako, Jabi, and Idu Industrial Layout. According to TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, the power outage is necessary to ensure the safety of all stakeholders during the road construction works along the Kuje axis. The construction project is being undertaken by the Federal Capital Development Authority.
The planned outage will be executed in three phases, with the first phase scheduled to commence from October 27 to November 2, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily. The second phase will take place from November 6 to 9, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily, while the third phase will occur from November 12 to 16, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily. TCN assures that normal power supply will be restored to the affected areas at the end of each day’s work period.
The road construction project is part of the ongoing infrastructure development efforts in the Federal Capital Territory. The TCN has apologized for the inconvenience the power outage may cause and has assured residents and businesses that it will work to minimize the disruptions. The company has also advised residents to make necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the power outage.
