Trump offers ‘anything you want’ to Japan’s new PM — RT World News

U.S. President Donald Trump reaffirmed America’s commitment to Japan during his visit to Tokyo, emphasizing the alliance amid rising tensions with China in the Indo‑Pacific. He described Japan as “an ally at the strongest level” and said bilateral ties would become “stronger than ever before.” Trump also announced that Japan would purchase a substantial amount of new military equipment, further solidifying the partnership.

The visit coincided with the inauguration of Japan’s new prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, a conservative who thanked Trump for mediating a dispute between Thailand and Cambodia and for his dedication to regional peace and stability. The two leaders signed a cooperation agreement on rare‑earth and critical minerals, aiming to curb China’s dominance in that market; a similar deal with Australia was signed earlier this month.

The United States and Japan share a long‑standing alliance, with American troops stationed in Japan since the end of World War II. Japan is one of the largest purchasers of U.S. weapons and has recently increased its defense budget, equipping its navy with long‑range cruise missiles. Joint naval drills involving the U.S., Japan, and South Korea are conducted regularly, drawing criticism from China and North Korea.

The new cooperation agreement is viewed as a significant step toward strengthening the alliance and countering China’s growing influence. By collaborating on rare‑earth supplies, the United States and Japan seek to reduce reliance on Chinese minerals and create a more stable, secure supply chain. The visit and the agreements signed by Trump and Takaichi underscore the importance of the U.S.–Japan partnership in addressing regional tensions and maintaining peace and stability in the evolving Indo‑Pacific landscape.
