Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has appointed former Minister of Aviation Senator Hadi Sirika as Pro‑Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University. The one‑year tenure began in October 2025. Ibrahim Almu‑Gafai, Director of Press in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, said the appointment reflects Sirika’s outstanding qualities and performance over the years. Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Abdullahi Garba‑Faskari urged Sirika to draw on his extensive experience in the new role.
Born on 2 March 1964 in Dubawa, Sirika B Ward, Dutsi Local Government Area of Katsina State, Senator Sirika is both an aviator and a politician. He holds a Master of Science in Aviation Management and has studied at the Petroleum Helicopter Institute, Flight Safety International, and Delta Aeronautics in the United States. His political career includes serving as a Member of the House of Representatives for Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency (2003‑2007), as Senator for Katsina North (2011‑2015), and as Minister of Aviation (2019‑2023) under the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
The appointment is viewed as a significant development for the education sector in Katsina State. Governor Radda congratulated Senator Sirika and wished him guidance in his new responsibilities. As Pro‑Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Sirika is expected to apply his experience and expertise to the university’s governance.
