The presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi, have approached the Presidential Election Court to seek permission to inspect the election materials used in the recent presidential poll held on February 25. Both candidates have refused to concede defeat, asserting their intention to reclaim their mandates through legal channels.

During separate press conferences in Abuja on Thursday, Atiku and Obi expressed their rejection of the conciliatory overture made by the President-elect, Bola Tinubu. In his acceptance speech, Tinubu urged them to support him in the task of nation-building following his declaration as the winner of the election. However, both candidates remained steadfast in their commitment to challenge the election results.

To formalize their intentions, Atiku and Obi filed two ex-parte motions at the PEC secretariat located at the Court of Appeal in Abuja. These motions request the court to allow them to inspect the materials used in the February 25 election. The Independent National Electoral Commission and two other parties have been named as respondents in the motions, which are scheduled for a hearing on Friday. Further details will be provided later.
