Nigeria’s Greedy Politics Exposed

A prominent Nigerian commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has criticized the country’s political system, describing it as driven by greed, deceit, and inhumanity. In a recent post, Shehu likened major political parties to scriptural figures, citing their alleged selfish ambitions and betrayal.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) was compared to the biblical figure of Pharaoh, characterized by terror, greed, deception, dictatorship, and blind ambition. Shehu noted that while some party members may be virtuous, the majority reflect the qualities of Pharaoh, marked by wickedness and a pretense to divine authority.

Shehu also criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing its members as “repentant wolves” still seeking to exploit others. He claimed the party is severely weakened, facing negative consequences, and lacks the support of spiritual leaders.

The Labour Party (LP) was accused of being driven by envy, greed, backstabbing, and treachery, with some members allegedly betraying their cause for financial gain. Shehu described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a coalition of sworn enemies united by desperation for power, with members carrying a sense of entitlement and harboring hatred.

Smaller parties were characterized as a mix of good and bad individuals, often driven by greed and poverty. Shehu noted that many of these parties are relatively unknown outside their local areas and tend to prioritize financial gain during election periods.

Citing a biblical verse, James 4:1-4, Shehu argued that Nigeria’s political crisis stems from the selfish desires and greed of those in power. The verse states, “You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight.” This mindset, according to Shehu, has led to a life of suffering, fear, instability, and deceit in Nigeria.

Shehu’s comments highlight the need for reform and accountability in Nigeria’s political system. The country’s political landscape is marked by corruption, inequality, and social unrest, underscoring the importance of addressing these issues to ensure a more stable and prosperous future.
