Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State led a delegation of PDP chieftains to the Federal High Court in Abuja, marking a significant development for the Peoples Democratic Party. Their appearance precedes the anticipated judgment on a lawsuit that seeks to halt the party’s planned national convention, where new national officers are expected to be elected.
The suit was filed by three PDP members—Austin Nwachukwu, Imo PDP chairman; Amah Nnanna, Abia PDP chairman; and Turnah George, South‑South PDP secretary. PDP governors had previously warned against attempts to derail the convention, which is scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a related development, the party announced the postponement of the screening of aspirants for the 2025 national convention, citing unforeseen issues. Umaru Fintiri, chairman of the convention committee and governor of Adamawa State, stated that the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) has put the screening process on hold. The initial screening, set for October 28, 2025, will be rescheduled at a later date, with the NCOC apologizing for any inconvenience caused.
As the PDP navigates this challenging period, the forthcoming judgment on the lawsuit will likely have significant implications for the national convention and the election of new officers. The party’s internal dynamics and external scrutiny are intensifying as it prepares for the convention, and the outcomes of the legal case and subsequent leadership decisions will be closely watched for their impact on the PDP’s trajectory and future election preparations.
