The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, cautioned against using the Peoples Democratic Party’s stakeholders as a bargaining tool in the party’s ongoing crisis. Speaking at a meeting with concerned PDP stakeholders in Abuja, Wike warned that party members should not be exploited for personal gain and stressed the need to return to due process.
His remarks came after a recent Abuja Federal High Court ruling that halted the PDP’s national convention scheduled for 15‑16 November in Ibadan, Oyo State. Justice James Omotosho barred the convention and directed the party to rectify its internal problems, emphasizing that the PDP must give the mandatory 21‑day notice before holding such an event. The judgment responded to a case filed by three aggrieved PDP members seeking redress for internal issues.
Wike’s warning reflects the concerns of many party members who want the PDP to uphold fairness, respect for the law, and its own principles. The internal crisis, marked by competing factions and stakeholders, has been intensified by the court’s decision, leaving the party’s future plans in limbo. As the PDP navigates this challenging period, its ability to resolve internal conflicts and adhere to due process will be crucial for its future success. Party members and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how the PDP addresses these challenges and emerges from the current uncertainty.
