The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that it will continue preparations for its national convention, scheduled for November, despite a recent court ruling. The Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognize the outcome of the convention. Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment while hearing a suit that challenged the convention’s legitimacy.
According to Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, the ruling will not hinder the PDP’s plans. Ologunagba described the decision as an attack on Nigeria’s democratic process but emphasized that the party remains empowered to proceed with the convention. The event is expected to elect new national officers who will oversee the party’s affairs for the next four years.
