The South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), a support group for President-elect Bola Tinubu, has characterized his victory in Saturday’s election as the culmination of a political journey that began over four decades ago. In a statement released on Friday, SWAGA National Chairman Dayo Adeyeye and National Secretary Bosun Oladele expressed their assurance that the president-elect will prioritize national unity, address insecurity, accelerate economic prosperity, and instill renewed hope in Nigerians, particularly among the youth.

Adeyeye and Oladele conveyed their confidence that Tinubu’s performance as president would surpass expectations. They emphasized that he would maintain high standards of governance and deliver democratic dividends, a hallmark of his eight-year tenure as governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007. SWAGA extended its gratitude to Nigerians from diverse backgrounds—political, cultural, and religious—for their overwhelming support in voting for Tinubu. They urged citizens to collaborate with the incoming president to guide the nation toward a brighter future, one that can be proudly passed on to the next generation.

The group described Tinubu’s victory as a well-deserved achievement, likening it to the final destination of a long and challenging political journey. They noted that this journey began in the trenches, where Tinubu, alongside like-minded individuals, fought against the military junta that annulled the June 12, 1993 election of late Chief MKO Abiola. Through platforms such as the National Democratic Coalition formed in 1994 and Afenifere, they worked tirelessly to restore democratic rule in Nigeria.

SWAGA portrayed Tinubu as a man of exceptional courage and tenacity, highlighting his unwavering commitment to sustaining and upholding democracy throughout the country. Adeyeye and Oladele commended all SWAGA members and supporters for their dedication and resilience over the past three years, affirming that their efforts were not in vain and that they have achieved a significant victory. They acknowledged that while they celebrate this success, their work is not yet complete, and they must continue to support the incoming president with renewed vigor and dedication.
