The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria has suspended two of its national officers—Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary, and Umar Bature, the National Organising Secretary—for one month. The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) took this action after a court ruling halted the PDP’s planned national convention.
On September 30, 2025, the NWC issued a formal warning letter to Anyanwu and Bature, alleging misconduct such as unauthorized communications, anti‑party activities, and actions that undermined party unity and protocols. The letter was a final caution, urging them to comply with NWC directives or face further disciplinary measures. Despite the warning, the pair continued to engage in disruptive activities, prompting their suspension.
The PDP said the suspension underscores its commitment to internal discipline, democratic processes, and transparency. By issuing the warning and taking swift action, the NWC demonstrated its resolve to protect the party’s integrity ahead of upcoming national engagements.
In addition to Anyanwu and Bature, two other officials—Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade and Deputy Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha—were also suspended. This move is intended to maintain order and discipline within the party as the national convention remains on hold due to the court ruling. The PDP’s actions highlight the importance it places on adhering to party protocols and safeguarding its democratic processes.
