The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has achieved a series of major drug seizures across Nigeria. Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi reported interceptions in Kaduna, Edo, Kwara, Ogun, Taraba, Ondo and Bauchi states. On 26 October, NDLEA operatives seized 84,710 tramadol capsules on the Abuja‑Jos highway in Kaduna. The drugs were being moved from Onitsha to Bauchi, and a subsequent operation led to the arrest of the intended recipient. Two days later, another suspect was detained at a tollgate on the Abuja‑Kaduna highway with 32,946 bottles of Akuskura, a new psycho‑active substance.
In Ogun state, three suspects were arrested on 1 November while transporting 1,779 kg of skunk from Benin Republic. In Bauchi state, a suspect was caught with 596.4 kg of skunk, and in Kwara state a truck yielded 532,600 tramadol pills and exol‑5. Edo state saw the interception of two Toyota Sienna buses carrying a total of 1,455 kg of skunk. Ondo state authorities recovered 2,829 kg of skunk linked to a 32‑year‑old female suspect. In Taraba state, two suspects were found with 30,370 tramadol pills and 177 g of methamphetamine, destined for Yola from Onitsha.
Agency Chairman retired Brigadier‑General Buba Marwa praised the officers and men of the affected commands for their resilience and professionalism. He pledged that the NDLEA would continue to target and dismantle every identified drug syndicate in Nigeria, ensuring that all traceable assets are forfeited to the federal government. These actions form part of the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, which seeks to educate the public on the dangers of drug misuse. The NDLEA has been conducting sensitisation activities in schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities nationwide. With these recent seizures, the agency reaffirms its commitment to combating the illicit drug trade and promoting a safer, healthier society.
