Nigeria security problem is beyond Muslim/Christian crisis — Soludo — Daily Nigerian

Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has denounced U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to launch military action in Nigeria over alleged Christian genocide. Soludo argues that Nigeria’s security challenges are far more complex than a simple Muslim‑Christian conflict. In a recent appearance on Channels TV, he said Trump’s claim that the United States would intervene “to protect Christians in Nigeria” misrepresents the situation on the ground and underscores the need for substantive dialogue from the Nigerian government to ensure that all relevant facts are accurately presented.

The governor stressed that if Nigeria were to seek foreign assistance, it should do so through formal requests for military support, technology, or equipment, rather than responding to external threats. He rejected any notion of an invasion, likening it to the absurdity of African nations threatening to invade the United States over incidents of racial violence. Referring to the #BlackLivesMatter protests in the U.S., Soludo questioned the logic of African countries considering an invasion of America in response to police brutality against African Americans.

Soludo emphasized the need for deeper conversation and warned that the Nigerian government would respond robustly to any external threats. While acknowledging that the United States, like any country, has the right to express opinions on global matters, he stressed that any intervention must respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and international law.

His comments come as the Nigerian government grapples with insurgency, communal violence and other security challenges that require a nuanced, multifaceted approach. The situation highlights the importance of careful consideration and cooperation between nations to address complex security issues while upholding the principles of sovereignty and international law. As Nigeria navigates these challenges, it is likely to engage in further dialogue with international partners, including the United States, to find effective solutions that prioritize the safety and well‑being of all Nigerians.
