Nigerian Election: Why INEC didn’t adopt electronic transmission of results — APC chieftain

Ekene Enefe, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has given reasons why the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) didn’t transmit election results electronically during last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Enefe said some political parties brought in hackers from Israel and Russia to manipulate the result of the 2023 general elections.

He spoke on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Friday.

Enefe said, “Each party has a situation room, they have known the results. They knew they were losing and they wanted to cling to something and what they wanted to cling on is the transmission of the results to the portal.

“But people do not know how many times the Independent National Electoral Commission server was hacked and attacked. And this was done by political parties that brought in Russian and Israeli hackers to hack into the INEC server and to transmit the end result and create chaos.

“None of them succeeded and that is why the election, to the best of my knowledge, wasn’t transmitted on the INEC server.”

Enefe’s verdict is coming less than a few days after agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP) and some other political parties stormed the National Collation Centre during the collation of the presidential election results at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, demanding the suspension of collation.
