With just one week remaining until the governorship and state House of Assembly elections scheduled for March 11, 2023, former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, has urged the electorate to avoid voting for a governor who would misrule the state for another eight years. He specifically advised against supporting candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party, citing their collaboration in causing significant hardships for the people of Plateau over the past eight years. Jang expressed gratitude to those who voted for candidates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the recent Senate and House of Representatives elections, and he congratulated the winners.
In a statement issued in Jos on Friday, Jang expressed confidence in the PDP and its candidates’ ability to rectify past mistakes and foster development in Plateau State. He encouraged the public to vote wisely for the benefit of the state. Reflecting on the presidential election held on February 25, he acknowledged that while the outcome may not have aligned with their preferences, time would reveal what is best for Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among party members as they approach the upcoming elections, urging them to set aside differences and present a united front.
Jang highlighted the need to channel the successes from the previous elections into the forthcoming local polls. He noted that the PDP had already secured five out of eight House of Representatives positions and two Senate seats, with a potential third on the horizon. He stressed the importance of electing a governor and a House of Assembly that would advocate for the interests of Plateau State. Reflecting on the challenges faced during the past eight years under APC governance, he warned that another APC administration would likely lead to further neglect and hardship.
He called on the people to resist any attempts to undermine their identity and to vote for a governor who would have the support of both state and national assembly members in advancing the interests of Plateau citizens. Jang emphasized that the time to act is now, urging the community to make a decisive choice for a prosperous Plateau characterized by lasting peace. He encouraged everyone, including supporters of other parties, to remain hopeful and join forces with the PDP to reclaim the state’s heritage. He concluded with a rallying cry to insulate Plateau by voting for the PDP and ensuring that their votes count, stating, “No retreat, no surrender.”
