Tinubu receives Sierra Leone’s President Bio in Abuja — Daily Nigerian

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria hosted his counterpart, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday. Although the meeting was private, it is believed to have focused on regional stability, security and economic cooperation within the West African sub‑region. As the current chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Bio’s visit marks his first official trip to Nigeria since assuming the leadership role in June, succeeding President Tinubu in that position.

The talks come four months after President Bio took over the chairmanship of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. During his stay in Abuja, Bio was scheduled to deliver a speech at the 12th convocation ceremony of Baze University and to meet with African business leaders. He announced his arrival and outlined his objectives for the visit on his social‑media account.

Both leaders expect the meeting to strengthen bilateral cooperation on key issues such as democracy promotion, counter‑terrorism and sustainable development across ECOWAS member states. Their collaboration is crucial for addressing West Africa’s challenges, including insecurity, economic instability and the need for integrated development.

ECOWAS continues to work toward regional peace, security and economic integration. As the new chair, President Bio is expected to build on the progress made by his predecessor, President Tinutu, aiming to create a more stable and prosperous West Africa where citizens benefit from economic opportunities, good governance and human security. Bio’s visit underscores the importance of continuous regional cooperation and engagement among West African leaders to tackle common challenges and promote shared interests.
