The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, expressed concern over acts of sabotage along the Abuja‑Kaduna‑Kano highway project during an inspection on Saturday. He urged community leaders to caution residents against destructive behavior, emphasizing the importance of maintenance and the prevention of road abuses such as vandalism and the removal of iron rods from completed sections.
Goronyo noted that the contractor is working diligently and that the road is taking shape, but he condemned sabotage that includes breaking infrastructure, dumping refuse and laying cables. He called on community leaders to educate their people about preserving the road, highlighting the significant investment made by the Federal Government. According to the minister, a well‑maintained road provides safer travel, reduces travel times, prevents accidents and enhances security. He pointed out a marked reduction in insecurity cases along the route since the project began.
The minister appealed to commuters and community leaders to support the administration’s efforts to complete the project and keep the road in good condition. He was accompanied by Clement Ogbuagu, Director of Federal Highways at the Federal Ministry of Works, who expressed satisfaction with the progress. Ogbuagu observed that the contractor is meeting the agreed timetable and that the quality of work is satisfactory, describing the highway as one of the fastest‑progressing projects in Nigeria.
The Abuja‑Kaduna‑Kano highway is a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing transportation and economic growth in the region. The Federal Government’s commitment to its completion is evident, with the minister and other stakeholders working to address challenges and ensure success. As the project advances, continued government efforts to maintain the road and prevent sabotage will be crucial for its long‑term sustainability and the benefits it brings to the community.
